The main dome shown here is the biggest mosque dome in the world, 75 metres (246 feet) high with a 32.2-metre (105.6 feet) diametre. Return tomorrow and I'll show you a couple more domes!
There seems to be a continual race to outdo each other in mosque size. As soon as one ruler builds the biggest mosque... the next one finishes his, which is slightly bigger. The competition may be down to who has the biggest of whichever architectural detail.
Rather like the on-going world-wide competition for tallest building.

Why 57, any special reason? Can't wait to see more!
Apparently they added another 23 domes since I posted, so we're now up to 80 and counting!
I'm absolutely domb-founded. ;-)
It's an incredibly beautiful building, however.
Very nice composition, too!

Hi Maddy,
You may well be correct. However, according to the Turkey Research Centre for Islamic History and Culture this one's the biggest :~)
