The water fountains were one of my favourite things in Abu Dhabi. I loved that they were often outside private houses, paid for by the home owners. And, of course, at all the mosques. They got me and my kids through summer last year, the only way to walk in that heat is to pace yourself from icy fountain to icy fountain. I confess, I never used one of the cups - always carried a bottle or cupped my hand under the flow.

I've needed to drink from them on many occasions, although I'm not so keen on using the cup!
