Drying Your Linen In Public
Although drying clothes in public is frowned upon by Abu Dhabi municipality (apparently due to it being an eyesore) most people don’t have much of a choice. And with temperatures up in the 100F, it’s not out for very long anyway.
I’m not quite sure why I like this photo but there’s something pleasing and restful about it. What do you think?

I agree. I can imagine myself inside with a cold drink waiting for the laundry to dry before heading out again. It's over 100F just about every day here as well!
As for your question about the paintings- You are right, one is Alicia Keys! I think the other lady on the left is Etta James, but I couldn't figure out the others! There were more paintings on another part of the building that I may post tomorrow- one has Cindy Crawford!
Thanks for stopping by!!
Go GREEN! Nature's "drying machine"! It reminds me that my mother hung out everything on the clothesline in the backyard when I was growing up...
I agree, this is restful. I think the colors, shapes and patterns are pleasing and balanced, but maybe above all, the slow simplicity of washing and drying laundry by hand is something simple we can all relate to. In a busy world, it might represent a sense of a slower, calmer, lifestyle. Not that I want to go back to that, but sometimes we all need a break! Isn't it funny how drying laundry can relate all cultures?
tapirgal - You've managed to put into words all the things I was thinking subconsciously but hadn't a clue on how to express them, which you have done so eloquently - Many thanks! Do call again!
I like it. It's nice to see something so homely and normal in a city I usually associate with massive construction projects and wealth.
This is a really nice shot, I too like photos of "normality" or daily life ... and you capture it beautifully in our rather ugly AND gorgeous at the same time city of Abu Dhabi :-)
Keep up the great work with the piccies!
