Traveling Trunks
I first learnt about these fabulous metal trunks from a fellow blogger in South Africa, who buys and sells them on mass. Apparently, they originate from Pakistan and are used by migrant workers to transport their worldly possessions. They're hand-painted and come in various shades and sizes. Don't they look great?

that trunk is so appealing. it lends itself to so many decorative purposes.
Hey man! I'm the bloke who is doing the trunks - my wife sent this to me - she does 'Going Coastal'.
Anyway, its great to hear other people also like'em.
I like the idea of crafts that are functional, and not just there for tourists. Objects with a story behind them.
These are used all over the sub-continent - India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
My first shipment arives in Cape Town in a week or so.
Cheers
Gavin
Gavin, you're a very smart, enterprising chap.
I can't imagine that Guyanese here have been to Pakistan and have never thought of selling these here.
I love, love, LOVE these trunks. I'd use them to put in all my sewing things, my note books, my home, kit and caboodle.
I too like craft that's functional.
There was one in my childhood home in Chicago. Don't know where my grandmother got it, but back then they were called steamship trunks. Hers was plain black with gold colored handles.
They have come a long way. Painted!

Dina - Isn't funny how a simple photo like this can bring back childhood memories for others.
