Poetry in Motion - Whirling Dervishes
"Everything you see has its roots in the unseen world.
The forms may change, yet the essence remains the same.
Every wonderful sight will vanish, every sweet word will fade,
But do not be disheartened,
The source they come from is eternal, growing,
Branching out, giving new life and new joy.
Why do you weep?
The source is within you
And this whole world is springing up from it.”
~Mawlana Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balhi 1207 AD
(AKA Rumi, master Persian poet and proto-founder of the Sufi Order of the Whirling Dervishes).

beautiful painting and 1207! for the poem - older than Skakespeare
Just got back from seeing the new "Sex in the City" movie filmed in part in Abu Dhabi. Now I want to visit your city more than ever, but only if I can travel in style like they did! :-)
Sorry to disappoint you Sharon, but none of it was filmed in Abu Dhabi. It is all Morocco. And the movie is banned in the UAE.
"Everything you see has its roots in the unseen world." Hmmm, now I understand that little 'shadow' image in the background.
I know an Egyptian woman whose old father went to a wedding, flung himself up into the air like a whirling dervish and promptly broke his ankle.
I love this poem. Which reminds me, I have a book of Rumi poems which I've never read as I'm still reading Don Quixote and I'm such a slow reader.
Sharon - MumOf2 is right I'm afraid. Checkout this article “Sex and The City 2” – set in Abu Dhabi but banned in the UAE

I'm sure Morocco's just as nice to visit :)
So funny as always Guyana-Gyal! I like a bit of Don Quixote...."The pen is the tongue of the mind"......."Never look for birds of this year in the nests of the last"..... "Not with whom you are born, but with whom you are bred"
Hm, you're good, you remember the quotes...I only remember the weirdest of incidents from Don Quixote.
