Is Abu Dhabi in mourning over the news of the death of Sheik Ahmed bin Zayed al Nahyan? As much as the culture honors its leaders, I'm curious to see how the culture mourns something so unexpected. The press here is suggesting it had something to do with his management of the sovereign wealth fund. Spin?
Islam has a very pragmatic way of dealing with death, however sudden. Having said that, it was still a big deal given his position. There were 3 days of mourning but surprisingly all government offices remained open, although bars and clubs were ordered to cancel live entertainment and music. Local TV and radio stations also stopped broadcasting. Checkout the local newspaper report for more details.
